Winter Workshop: Seeds for Spring

Seed Library Image copyThe Lyonia Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society (FNPS) is offering a seed-collecting and seed-sowing workshop on Tuesday, Jan. 19, at 7 p.m., in the Rinker Environmental Learning Center (RELC), Stetson University. Local organic gardener Pauline Coppello, of Pauline’s Lucky Market Garden, along with Nicki Cheslow, student coordinator of Stetson’s Seed Library, will lead this hands-on session to encourage collecting, saving and starting the seeds of Florida native plants.

Participants will help establish seed flats to be transplanted later this spring in the Volusia Sandhill Teaching Landscape at Stetson University’s Gillespie Museum, and will be given seeds of native plants to take home.

All are welcome to attend the workshop. The Lyonia Chapter of FNPS meets on the third Tuesday of odd-numbered months (January, March, May) in the Rinker Environmental Learning Center. On alternate months the chapter schedules field trips and service workdays in local native gardens and parks. The RELC is located at 240 E. Michigan Ave. For additional information about this event or FNPS, contact the Gillespie Museum, (386) 822-7330, or visit [email protected].
