The Malka Altman Memorial Lecture in Jewish Studies will welcome Hasia Diner, Ph.D., professor of Hebrew and Judaic studies and history at New York University, to Stetson for her presentation “Eat and Be Satisfied: Food and the Making of American Jewry.” The lecture will be held Tuesday, Sept. 13, 7 p.m., in the Stetson Room, upstairs in the Carlton Union Building.

Diner is the Paul S. and Sylvia Steinberg Professor of American Jewish History and director of the Goldstein-Goren Center for American Jewish History at New York University. She has authored numerous works that bring to light the intersection of American and Jewish history. Her interests move in multiple directions, from her early examination of American Jewish engagement with the condition of black Americans in the early 20th century to the histories of other European immigrant groups in the United States as well as global Jewish migrations.

The Malka Altman Memorial Lectures in Jewish Studies was established to bring major scholars to Stetson to deliver lectures on a variety of topics within the field of American Jewish studies, such as history, sociology, religion, gender studies and the arts. Hosted by Stetson’s Department of Religious Studies, the event is free and open to the public. Cultural credit is available.
