After a week of activities, Stetson University will present a $10,000 check for the Greenfeather Grant to Stewart-Marchman-Act Behavioral Healthcare at the Homecoming football game on Saturday, Nov. 5.

Students have been competing this week in various competitions, such as storefront painting in downtown DeLand, a chalk art competition on campus, and Airwaves, a dance competition between student organizations.

To prepare for the Homecoming football game against Marist College, Stetson has been encouraging school spirit through community service. The goal was to raise $10,000 for Stewart-Marchman-Act to build an outdoor fitness trail at its DeLand facility.

Homecoming committee members believe that they will hit their goal of $10,000.

“I’m most excited to help SMA because it means that Stetson will be making a difference in the community while helping patients at the facility,” said Daniella Hankey, director of traditions for the Stetson Homecoming Committee. “So far, teams have donated a lot of money toward SMA.”

The check will be presented during half-time of the Stetson Homecoming game on Saturday, Nov 5.

There has been a number of students participating in this year’s Homecoming festivities. Many are experiencing their first Stetson Homecoming and learning what it is like to participate in community service while celebrating being a Hatter.

“This week has been filled with Stetson spirit,” said Kitana Rivera, a Stetson first-year student. “It’s given people pride in their community as place anybody would want to come home to. Go Hats!”

The football game will take place on Saturday, Nov. 5, at 2 p.m. in Spec Martin Memorial Stadium. Go Hatters!
