Scam of the Week: Vevo Data Breach Caused By LinkedIn Phishing Attack

Heads-up! This is a reminder that the bad guys are constantly using big name social media applications to their advantage. This week, music video site Vevo experienced a data breach as a result of a phishing scam via LinkedIn.
Social media applications are one of the easiest ways for hackers to use social engineering to exploit individuals and gain access to sensitive data.
Here are a couple reminders of how to avoid social media phishing attacks and stay safe online:
- Limit communications to individuals you trust, have met in person, or have a reliable mutual connection to.
- Do not click on any links or open attachments sent via social media platforms, unless you can confirm with the sender (in person or over the phone) that they are safe.
- Use two-factor authentication on all of your social media accounts.
Always remember: “When in doubt, throw it out!”
