LakePoint, Georgia — A record number of 180 Stetson University student-athletes received ASUN Honor Roll accolades for posting a 3.0 GPA or better during the 2017-18 academic year, the league announced on Wednesday.

Stetson ranked fourth among league members and broke another school record with 73.5 percent of its ASUN student-athletes earning a spot on the Honor Roll.  Student-athletes from football and men’s and women’s rowing compete in other conferences and are not included in the ASUN totals.

Jacksonville University claimed the ASUN Academic Champion Trophy with 80.8 percent of its student-athletes landing on the Honor Roll. Lipscomb (80.2 percent) and UNF (75.2 percent) ranked second and third, respectively, in the academic standings.

Overall, the league saw a record 73.6 percent of its student-athletes earn Honor Roll recognition. The previous record of 70.05 percent was set in 2015-16. Stetson was one of five conference institutions to set school records for percentage of student-athletes on the ASUN Honor Roll.

“Our student-athletes rising to a new level of academic success showcases the commitment our institutions have made to the Students First mindset,” stated ASUN Commissioner Ted Gumbart. “We are thrilled to achieve this new conference record and congratulate each and every one of those student-athletes for their accomplishments in the classroom.”

Nine sports set new record-highs for percentages with Women’s Tennis (91.67), Women’s Cross Country (91.01), Women’s Soccer (88.63), Women’s Lacrosse (87.5), Women’s Track & Field (76.69), Men’s Golf (75.0), Women’s Basketball (74.34), Men’s Soccer (68.39) and Baseball (64.07) all setting new percentage marks. In total, 1,509 ASUN Conference student-athletes registered at least a 3.0 GPA for the 2017-18 academic year.

The ASUN Conference is a NCAA Division I league with nine private and public institutions: Stetson University, Florida Gulf Coast University, Jacksonville University, Kennesaw State University, Liberty University, Lipscomb University, New Jersey Institute of Technology, University of North Alabama and University of North Florida.
