• Stetson University moved up to No. 4 in U.S. News & World Report 2021 Best Colleges list for Best Regional Universities – South, as reported by several press reports on Sept. 15. Stetson also ranked as Best for Veterans, No. 2; Best Undergraduate Teaching, No. 8 (tie); Best Value Schools, No. 15; and Most Innovative Universities, No. 16 (tie). 

• Stetson was featured in the West Volusia Beacon article, “Stetson University welcomes 859 new students this fall” on Sept. 16.

• Stetson’s virtual “Entrepreneur Thursdays” speaker series was the feature of a Sept. 15 Tampa Bay Inno article, “Stetson University launches virtual ‘Entrepreneur Thursdays’ series.”

• Associate Professor and Jessie Ball duPont Endowed Chair of Social Justice Education Rajni Shankar-Brown, PhD, and alumna Autumn Johnson ’20 were quoted in a Sept. 11 Ivanhoe Broadcast News article titled, “Never Give Up! Homeless to College Grad.”

• Stetson Assistant Director of Grants and Sponsored Research Sidney Johnston was quoted Sept. 15 in the West Volusia Beacon article, “Effort begins to get DeLand building on National Register of Historic Places,” about the J.W. Wright Building.

• Stetson Law was featured in a Sept. 14 article in The Gabber for winning the 2020 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine. 

• Stetson Law’s new Environmental Tax Policy Writing Competition and its inaugural winners were featured on the TaxProf Blog on Sept. 15 in the article, “Stetson Competition Generates Tax Solutions To Address Climate Change.”

• Law Professor Ciara Torres-Spelliscy was quoted in a Sept. 16 Newsweek article called, “How ‘Law and Order’ Became 2020’s ‘Build the Wall.’” 

• Law Professor Louis J. Virelli III was quoted in a Sept. 16 Law.com and The Legal Intelligencer article called, “’Judicial Aggressiveness’? Some Court Watchers See Decision Striking Down Pa. Shutdown Orders as Outlier.”

Alumni News:

• Alumnus Steven Lane was featured in Broadway World Orlando on Sept. 15 for his role in the UCF presented-“Poe: Deep Into That Darkness Peering.” The article was titled, “Orlando Shakes in Partnership with UCF Presents Poe: Deep Into That Darkness Peering.” The theater experience will be available for streaming from Oct. 22 – Nov. 1.

• Law alumnus and incumbent Republican Will Robinson is running for a second term as Florida State Representative for District 71. He is a partner with the Blalock Walters law firm, serves on the Manatee Chamber Board of Directors, and formerly served as the Chair of Meals on Wheels Plus of Manatee, according to a profile in The Bradenton Times.  

• Law alumnus Julio Gonzalez was featured in the Lake Okeechobee News for his presentation at an Okeechobee Republican meeting.
