Safer Campus Task Force Updates

Tiers Update
The Stetson community should all be pleased with the decrease of active cases and isolations since August. We remain in Tier 1 and are monitoring various measures, including Volusia County’s active cases, which have risen over the last 2 weeks, and continue to consult with our AdventHealth partners.

The university originally opened at Tier 1 to ensure the safety of the community as students returned to on-campus living and online, hybrid and limited classroom learning. In our ongoing consideration of student physical and emotional health, the university is reviewing what a move to Tier 2 in the future might require. We ask all departments, offices and individuals to review Tier 2 requirements, consider preparations you might need to make for Tier 2, and please prepare for those steps appropriately.

We must be ready, where possible, to provide steps toward greater engagement opportunities for students while remaining vigilant over the health of our community. The efforts of everyone, but especially the diligence of students, is impressive. Whether Tier 1 or 2, we ask the community to please continue to follow safety guidelines, including facial coverings, physical distancing, smaller group sizes and hand washing. Our continued success depends on our students, faculty and staff acting responsibly to protect themselves and the community.

Tiers vs. Phases: Athletics Students and Staff
Due to NCAA requirements, Stetson Athletics adheres to its own phase system outlined in their Plan for Resocialization of Sports. Athletics is in Phase 2 of its plan, which requires rigorous screening and testing of all student athletes. Students athletes must have two negative tests before participating in sports practices or competitions. More details can be found here

After meeting established milestones, the men’s basketball team was permitted to move into Phase 3 of activities last Friday, Sept. 11. The men’s basketball team is the first team that has been allowed to move into Phase 3, which allows for a return to more normal team practices and, when permitted, outside competition. This change also increases the total number of student athletes allowed in the weight room and training rooms while still wearing face coverings when not involved with physical activity. Several other teams, including cross-country, tennis, golf and women’s basketball, are on track to move to Phase 3 on Sept. 17. Read the full story at gohatters.com.

Everbridge App now Available from App Store
The Everbridge Contact Tracer app for Apple users is now available for download in the iOS App Store. This new application will aid Stetson Health Service with contact tracing, which is an extremely vital portion of our wellness plan. During contact tracing, Stetson Health Service works with patients to develop a list of everyone they have been in close contact with during a certain period. The staff will then contact those people to let them know about their possible exposure, so that they can take proper precautions. The app will run in the background (only 3%-4% battery usage per day) and will keep track of all close contact (within 6 feet for >15 minutes) exposure events for 14 days. All COVID-19 self-reports will be done on the Contact Tracer app, so that all exposure events can be transmitted to Stetson Health Service to initiate contact tracing procedures to keep our community healthy.

The app can be found by searching for Everbridge Contact Tracer. Once the app is downloaded, users will select “Single Sign-On.” They will be prompted to enter the single sign-on key phrase, which is Stetson2020. The original Everbridge app will remain on the phone and will continue to receive Daily Wellness Checks and any other messages that are sent. No messaging, other than exposure events, will be delivered to the Contact Tracer app.
