Terence Farrell, PhD

• Biology Professor Terence Farrell, PhD, was quoted in USA Today on Feb. 4 in the article, “Preventing the next COVID-19 would be cheaper, safer than fighting a pandemic, study says.” Farrell discussed the ongoing coronavirus pandemic as well as the general methods by which viral infections can spread. “It’s amazing and horrifying how rapidly we are spreading diseases across the globe,” he said. “Almost all of these parasitic diseases that we are concerned about are transmitted through the food chain.”

• Psychology Professor Christopher Ferguson, PhD, was quoted in the USA Today article on banned books entitled, “Books are being banned from school libraries. Here’s what that does to students,” on Feb. 5.

• Rajni Shankar-Brown, PhD, professor and Jessie Ball duPont Endowed Chair of Social Justice Education, was quoted in the Greenville (S.C.) News on Feb. 8 in the article, “‘Crisis’: Tenants and property owners wrestle with 16,000 evictions in Greenville.” Shankar-Brown said, “This is a massive crisis. It has the potential for multi-generational effects.”

• Professor of Environmental Science and Studies Wendy Anderson, PhD, was quoted in the Daytona Beach News-Journal article, “DeLand commission gives rezoning for development of former golf course, landfill initial approval,” on Feb. 4. Anderson discussed environmental concerns with the city’s new plans to develop residential property on land previously used for a golf course and landfill.

• Assistant Professor of Finance Matthew Imes, PhD, was quoted in a Money Geek article entitled, “Best Low-Interest Rate Credit Cards & Offers in 2022” on Feb. 6. Imes also lended his expert opinion for the article, “The Best Rewards Credit Cards of 2022,” on Feb. 8.

• Adjunct Instructor of History Peggy MacDonald, PhD, was featured in the Feb. 2 edition of the Highlands News-Sun. The article was titled, “In honor of Black History Month.”

• Law Professor Peter Lake’s quotes were featured in a Feb. 2 post on the Tax Prof Blog titled, “COVID-19 Tuition Refund Fights Heat Up in Appeals Courts.” Lake’s comments originally appeared Feb. 1 in the National Law Journal.

• Alumna Madison Miller was named Volusia County’s Teacher of the Year, according to the West Volusia Beacon “Class Notes” section on Feb. 8.

• Alumnus Clint Bentley was featured in the Garden & Gun piece, “Get to Know Jockey Director—and Florida Native—Clint Bentley” on Feb. 4. Bentley recently made his directorial debut with the sports drama Jockey, which was released at the end of last year.

• Law alumnus Blaze Bowers was quoted in a Feb. 3 article in Higher Ed Dive titled, “Federal Title IX probe into Brigham Young U unlikely to yield consequences.”
