TEDx/StetsonU: ‘Five Eloquent Speakers’

TEDxStetsonU is a universitywide opportunity for the Stetson community to gather to hear a day of brilliant speakers, watch thought-provoking videos and learn through engaging conversations.

Students, faculty and staff gathered at the Stetson Room to listen and learn.

On Feb. 15, students, faculty and staff heard from this year’s five speakers.

Note: Over the next several weeks, keep an eye out for videos of each speaker.

Asher Sochazewski: During Asher Sochaczewski’s speech, he discussed the adversity he has faced with having a speech impediment and his ongoing struggle with rhotacism. He hopes his speech inspires others with speech differences — such as lisps, stutters and rhotacism — to make their voices heard on topics they are passionate about.

D’Angelo Brown

D’Angelo Brown: After graduating from Stetson, D’Angelo Brown decided to serve through the Peace Corps as a youth development volunteer in Thailand. It is because of this journey that Brown was able to come back and offer insight on finding purpose.

Dylaney Sabino

Dylaney Sabino:  What does community engagement have to do with personal wellness? Dylaney Sabino explored the transformative impact of community engagement, sharing personal experiences and insights as Bonner coordinator at Stetson. Maintaining an awareness of ethical volunteerism, Sabino described the positive impact collaborative action can have on anyone and everyone, as well as a simple way to initiate a community-engaged journey.

Naya Adla

Naya Adla: Naya Adla is a second-year student from Aleppo, Syria. She recounted her journey from survival after leaving her country for Egypt to empowerment through the transformative impact of education (and the power of love).

Shane Norton: What happens if we all became imposters? Shane Norton delved into the implications of widespread impostorship and the consequences of relying on A.I.-generated content. This stimulating conversation prompted reflection on authenticity, self-confidence and the evolving relationship between humanity and artificial intelligence.
