Hatters Advance to NCAA Baseball Tournament

Head coach Steve Trimper puts his stamp on a conference championship, as the Hatters win the ASUN and advance to the national tournament.

The Stetson Hatters are headed to 2024 NCAA Baseball Tournament. They begin play Friday, May 31, at the Tallahassee Regional, hosted by Florida State. Game time will be noon, televised on the ACC Network.

The Hatters advanced to the national playoffs by virtue of winning the Atlantic Sun Conference Baseball Championship on Sunday, May 26 — a 5-3 victory over Kennesaw State at Melching Field in DeLand. It’s Stetson’s ninth ASUN Baseball Championship in program history.

Portrait of success: The Hatters (40-20) now face FSU (42-15).

At the Tallahassee Regional, the Hatters will be joined by FSU, the University of Central Florida and the University of Alabama in a double-elimination setting. (Teams are eliminated on their second loss.) The Hatters will open the regional against FSU, while UCF plays Alabama in its opening game.

The Hatters and Seminoles split their two matchups during the regular season. The Seminoles are 3-2 all-time in the NCAA Tournament against the Hatters.

Tallahassee Regional opening round: #1 Florida St. (42-15) vs. #4 Stetson (40-20), 12 p.m., ACCN; and #2 Alabama (33-22) vs. #3 UCF (35-19), 6 p.m., ESPN+

The winner of the regional then moves on to the Super Regionals (Friday-Sunday, June 7-9 or Saturday-Monday, June 8-10), with sites and teams to be determined. Winners of the eight Super Regionals advance to the Men’s College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska (Saturday-Monday, June 22-23/24).

The only time Stetson has advanced to the Super Regionals was 2018, when the Hatters fell to the North Carolina, losing two of three games to the Tar Heels. That year, Stetson’s 48 wins tied a program single-season record. This year, the Hatters stand at 40 wins (and counting).
