Opportunities Soared During Day in the Life at Delta Air Lines

Monday, Oct. 7, only three days before Hurricane Milton descended on the DeLand campus, Delta Air Lines landed at Stetson to present its annual recruitment promotion, Day in the Life.

Students of all majors and years of study were welcome. And the approximately 100 of them who attended were not disappointed, as five representatives from Delta — including a Stetson alumnus — took the podium at Lee’s Garage to talk internships, employment and careers, courtesy of Stetson’s Career Success office.
The alumnus was Max Perez-Duel ’20, who majored in International Business. Two years later, in spring 2022, he was part of the first-ever Delta information session — serving as proof of what could be at the company, which has more than 100,000 global employees.

At the center of the presentation was the chance to become part of Delta’s Undergraduate Commercial Strategy Analyst Program, one of several opportunities included. Highlights of the Strategy Analyst Program: It’s designed to accelerate the development of high-potential contributors by deepening their understanding of Delta’s operations in specific areas, along with expanding their skills through challenging work rotations and providing leadership training. The paid program is structured as a cohort and based in Atlanta. Following three years in the program, participants may pursue a career throughout Delta. The discussions were lively.
In addition, earlier that day, 12 students had earned the opportunity to meet for lunch with the Delta contingent by diligently working through the Delta Air Lines Pathway to Success in their HatterJobs accounts. Their efforts ranged from researching the company and connecting with recruiters at Delta to attending a Delta Pre-Visit Prep Session and reviewing the application process. Also, aided by Career Success, the students worked on revising and updating their resumes to an “elevated level to ensure the document properly conveys their professional skills, attributes, qualifications and academic accomplishments, all of which are expected of candidates entering the Delta Air Lines recruitment process,” described Liz Connor, director of Career Success.
On this day, the prize was getting a leg up on a career that just might takeoff.
