RGIP Showcase 2024: All About Sustainable Energy

On Nov. 6, students from the Stetson’s Roland George Investments Program will present to RGIP trustees, fellow students, faculty, staff and the DeLand community one of the most pressing megatrends in modern-day society — sustainable energy.
To catch you up with the financial jargon, a megatrend refers to a major movement that can significantly impact how global economies, societies and businesses operate.
“Particularly, we are looking at companies that are working on making their business and their operations more environmentally sustainable,” said Matthew Imes, PhD, assistant professor of Finance and director of Roland George Investments Program. “So, we are thinking about carbon neutral and initiatives in that direction.”
So, in an environment where education meets entertainment, the brightest minds from the School of Business Administration will share their insightful assessments — obtained through months of meticulous research — through captivating storytelling.
The Theme: Environmental Sustainability
Five teams, one stage, a battle of intellect and strategy for first place and, wait for it … cash prizes.
This year, students were tasked to choose a company that falls within the umbrella of environmental sustainability.
“I’m really excited to see where the students take it as they get to choose the companies,” Imes said. “Our teams are going to be seniors and juniors. So, we are going to see teams that bring together experienced students who have been in the program for over a year and are leaders in the program with the juniors who have just stepped into the program recently.”
And, with three or four students per team, this was the company selection for the 2024 RGIP Showcase: Nextracker, Constellation Energy Corp., Blue Bird, Sempra and Atcore. Each team will have 10 to 12 minutes to present the company analysis to the RGIP trustees and the audience.
“They’ll be presenting a stock after doing a deep-dive discounted cashflow and comp analysis into their respective company,” Imes said. “They will know so much about that company that they have figured out how the company is doing relative to its competitors, how it’s positioned in the industry and how it’s likely to do going forward in terms of developing and growing as a business.”
With a price target in mind, the teams ultimately will be looking for investments that they can pitch to the trustees. The goal? To have those investments purchased by the RGIP Endowment Fund and, of course, become the 2024 champions.
The showcase will take place at 6 p.m. in the CUB in the Warren and Barbara Carr Stetson Room. Students can receive Cultural Credit for attending and the event is open to Stetson’s students, faculty and staff as well as the DeLand community.
