Stetson Baseball Hits Home Run

Stetson Baseball once again proves it’s a top-notch national program. On Monday, July 14, four Hatters were selected during the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft — Stetson’s largest draft class since 2018.

Shortstop Lorenzo Meola was chosen by the San Francisco Giants in the fourth round (116th overall pick). The junior infielder became the highest Stetson player drafted overall since 2018, when right-handed pitcher Logan Gilbert was taken 14th overall by the Seattle Mariners.

Third baseman Isaiah Barkett and pitcher Ty Van Dyke were selected in the 10th round, with Barkett chosen by Giants (296th overall pick) and Van Dyke selected four spots later by the St. Louis Cardinals. In the 14th round (431st overall), pitcher Jonathan Gonzalez was chosen by the Philadelphia Phillies.

Additionally, Mason Davenport, a right-hander pitcher who stands 6-foot-9, was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Toronto Blue Jays.

Now, each can begin his climb toward the Major Leagues, which is affectionately called “The Show.”

Not coincidentally, during the 2025 season the Hatters won their second consecutive ASUN championship and again advanced to NCAA Regional play. They finished with a 41-22 record.

In all, Stetson Baseball, which started in 1895, has sent 12 players to the Major Leagues.

The Draftees

Lorenzo Meola

Meola, a Business Administration major, was a staple on the infield since his arrival on campus. He won ASUN Tournament MVP honors as a sophomore in 2024 before earning ASUN Defensive Player of the Year and All-ASUN First Team honors this season. He is the highest-drafted position player from Stetson since Chris Johnson, a fourth-round pick in 2006, who wound up playing for five MLB teams.

Isaiah Barkett

This spring, Barkett, whose father was a Major Leaguer, batted .389 — second-best in the ASUN — and led the team in hits, including 25 multi-hit games. During the postseason, he was named to the All-Tournament teams at both the ASUN Championship and NCAA Auburn Regional.

Ty Van Dyke

Van Dyke, a senior right-hander who majored in Business, was a force as the team’s closer this season. He appeared in 27 games, posting a perfect 7-0 record with nine saves, a 1.52 ERA and 71 strikeouts over 47.1 innings. His postseason efforts were highlighted by a dominant performance in the team’s NCAA Regional win over Auburn. He earned Third Team All-America honors.

Jonathan Gonzalez

Gonzalez, a two-time All-America left-hander who majored in Finance, earned ASUN Pitcher of the Year honors this spring, finishing 10-2 with a 1.83 ERA and 105 strikeouts in 93.2 innings. He was especially outstanding during Stetson’s NCAA Regional-opening win over North Carolina State.

Former Hatter An MLB All-Star Again

Former Hatter Jacob deGrom ’10 became an all-star again, following his selection to the American League roster for the 2025 Major League Baseball All-Star Game on July 15. It was his fifth MLB all-star selection.

Jacob deGrom ’10

deGrom was a four-time All-Star with the New York Mets (2015, 2018, 2019, 2021). Coming back from injuries, he regained his elite form during the first half of the 2025 season, compiling a 9-2 record with a 2.13 ERA over 17 game starts.

His selection marked the ninth MLB All-Star appearance by a Hatter. In addition to deGrom’s five, fellow pitcher Corey Kluber ’07 was a three-time All-Star (2016, 2017, 2018), and Logan Gilbert ’18 earned his first selection last year.
