Fall Internship & Career Expo: More Than 350 Students and Alumni Met With 60-Plus Organizations

Isabelle Sanco Keis, a senior from Brazil majoring in international studies major with minors in French and Latin American Studies, was seeking to create connections and identify organizations that are open to hiring someone from a different country.

Meanwhile, Ethan Palmer, a Management major in his first semester on campus after transferring from Daytona State College, was looking for internship opportunities to complete his School of Business Administration Experiential Learning Requirement.

Keis and Palmer were joined by approximately 350 students and alumni at the 2025 Fall Internship & Career Expo on Friday, Oct. 17, noon-3 p.m., at the Rinker Field House’s Hollis Center. They were greeted by representatives from nearly 60 organizations, who exhibited in hopes of attracting new talent. Aside from meeting with organizations, students received cultural credit and had the opportunity to take home a free professional headshot.

While organizations exhibited in hopes of attracting new talent, students and alumni were happy to oblige.

Also, an early access time (11:30 a.m.-12 p.m.) was a new feature for students and alumni who needed an accommodation to attend the event due to challenges such as mobility, injuries and anxiety related to lines, crowds or loud noise. “Everyone was supportive of the initiative,” said Sandi Ohman, associate director of Career Success. “I look forward to seeing more students use the early access time as awareness grows that the event is accessible to everyone.”

Ultimately, Keis felt she succeeded. While acknowledging that job sponsorship for an international student is a complicated process, she was “able to talk with companies and have them open up to you as an international student.”

Senior Isabelle Sanco Keis (right): “Creating those connections, I think it’s really important, and it’s something that you don’t get when you’re online … .”

“Creating those connections, I think it’s really important, and it’s something that you don’t get when you’re online, because you can’t really get that personal connection with people, and you can’t really ask those questions. … They could say, ‘Yes, I could hire you or, no, I can’t, but I know this person who could.’ So, I think it’s definitely worth it.”

Palmer also walked away satisfied with his efforts. “I came here to network myself a little bit,” he said. “I was excited to see so many companies here. I was trying to hit every booth, trying to talk to as many people as possible and hand out as many resumes as I could.”

Among the organizations was Saltmarsh CPAs Inc., one of the largest full-service advisory firms in the Southeast. Stacy Taylor, a 1997 Stetson graduate, hoped to find interns for her company’s tax and audit services. About midway through the event, she had found at least four candidates.

Stacy Taylor ’97, exhibiting with Saltmarsh CPAs Inc.: “A lot of our staff started that way because I think having an internship gives students an opportunity to know if they like tax.”

“A lot of our staff started that way because I think having an internship gives students an opportunity to know if they like tax,” Taylor said. “A lot of times you think you like it, but when you graduate and get in there, you realize this isn’t the field for me.”

Similarly, Amber Hobble of AdventHealth DeLand, was looking for both interns and volunteers who could get “excited about joining health care,” she said.

“At AdventHealth, we have a strong partnership with Stetson,” Hobble added. “And so, we wanted to come out today and continue that engagement with students. … We have a lot of students who are not going into nursing as a career.  But, in fact, nursing is going to be one of the most desired careers in the coming years because, as we have a population that is getting older, we do not have enough nurses or doctors to help take care of them.”

Ohman, who joined Stetson Career Success in April, believed productive communication occurred between both students and organizations.

“This was my first Internship and Career Expo as part of the Career Success team,” said Ohman. “Considering all the majors at Stetson, I was happy to see a diverse list of organizations attending this event. In an economy that is cautious, it is great to see so many organizations pursuing Stetson students and alumni.”
