Edmunds Center Reimagined

On Feb. 21, Stetson hosted Edmunds Center Reimagined: Game-Day Celebration & Showcase — marking the completion of the comprehensive renovation and expansion of the historic J. Ollie Edmunds Center.

The festive event represented a first official chance for alumni, donors, students and community members to tour the new-look facility. They were also treated to Pep Band and Cheer Team performances, as well as a celebration ceremony. In addition, fans were able to watch the men’s and women’s basketball teams play (and win) in doubleheader action.

On this day, while Stetson shined on the court, its “new” Edmunds Center was the real star.

The Reimagined Edmunds Center

Originally opened in 1974, the Edmunds Center has served for decades as the home of Hatters basketball and volleyball, as well as a central venue for major university gatherings, including convocation and commencement. The Edmunds Center renovation is a multiyear project representing an institutional commitment to modernized athletics and fan experience.

Phase 1 of the project, completed in 2024, had an estimated cost of approximately $7 million, funded through a combination of private philanthropy and financing. The overall fundraising goal for the renovation was set at $15.5 million, with progress toward that target ongoing through campaign efforts. The project was streamlined through scope adjustments that reduced projected costs while preserving key elements of the transformation, and Phase 2 of the project is now completed at under $6 million.

“The reimagined Edmunds Center reflects our commitment to providing spaces that support academic excellence, student-athlete success and meaningful community connection,” said President Christopher F. Roellke, PhD. “We are deeply grateful to the donors and partners whose generosity made this transformation possible, especially Dr. Jane Edmunds Novak and her husband, Wayne, who gave in support of her father, former Stetson President J. Ollie Edmunds, and preserved the Edmunds legacy.”

“This project enhances the experience for our student-athletes, fans and the entire campus community while honoring the legacy of the Edmunds Center,” said Director of Athletics Ricky Ray. “We are proud to celebrate this milestone and the generosity of those who invested in the future of Stetson University.”

Physical Transformation

Phase 1 upgrades included new arena bleachers and enhanced seating, fully renovated restrooms, updated team locker rooms, interior aesthetic improvements, and a new sound system. Concessions areas were also expanded and improved to better serve spectators during athletic contests and special events.

Phase 2 completed the transformation with a redesigned and expanded main lobby, improved entry and circulation flow, updated ticketing areas, additional administrative and operational space, and the installation of a new elevator providing full multi-level ADA accessibility. The project also introduced the Champions Walkway — celebrating the achievements of Stetson Athletics and recognizing the generous donors whose philanthropic support helped bring the reimagined Edmunds Center to life.
