The Orlando Sentinel’s retrospective on higher education included historic Hulley Tower.

In January, Stetson’s history was traced as part of “Orlando Sentinel 150: How higher education grew in Central Florida.” Stetson’s portion of the story came under the heading “A ‘beautiful’ location for a school.”

NewBreak’s Feb. 3 article “Cybersecurity Program at Stetson Launches Saudi Graduate’s Career” was among several by media outlets that repeated the university’s original post about alumnus Raed Shafei, who is now a Cybersecurity Specialist for a confidential Saudi Arabian government agency.

On Feb. 12, Family Destinations Guide published “This Postcard-Worthy Town In Florida Is Perfect For Lazy Weekend Drives” — featuring DeLand and describing Stetson as adding “another layer of cultural richness to DeLand, its beautiful campus a destination in itself for weekend explorers.” In addition, Family Destinations Guide’s Feb. 15 story, “10 Breathtaking Day Trips In Florida You’ll Be Talking About For Years,” featured DeLand and noted that Stetson’s “gorgeous campus enhances the community with its stately brick buildings and lush green spaces.”

On Feb. 15, Christopher Ferguson, PhD, professor of Psychology, bylined the article “There is no evidence that social media harms children’s mental health,” published in Spectator Australia and other media outlets. Also, published in The Drum on Feb. 18, Ferguson bylined an article about “social media regulation being shaped by fear, not evidence.”

On Feb. 17 in Central Florida Public Media, Wendy Anderson, PhD, an Environmental Science professor, was quoted as part of “Volusia Council fails to pass proposals to ban recycled water for drinking.” Anderson is currently running for Volusia County’s District 1 seat.

On Feb. 24, Spectrum News 13 profiled Stetson students who are volunteering their time to teach children, students and adults about influential Black historical figures — while also working to change the future of the legal profession through representation, education and service. The article was titled “Turning Black history into action: Stetson pre-law students work to inspire the next generation.”

Hometown News Volusia’s Feb. 19 article “African Arts Museum expansion opens in DeLand” cited key donations from Stetson professors to help build out the museum.

On Feb. 23, ABC released the names, headshots and bios of the contestants who will be vying for roses on television’s season 22 of “The Bachelorette.” Stetson alumnus Shane Parton, 28, a private wealth planner, is one of them. Parton, from Atlanta, played football during his college days at Stetson, and now “keeps a running note of the best breakfast burritos he’s ever had,” according to his bio. It also says that he is a “massive Uno enthusiast,” according to ENews! and other media outlets.
