Stetson Theatre Arts presents ‘Girl in the Goldfish Bowl’ by Morris Panych, Feb. 19-22

Second Stage Theatre at Stetson continues its 120th season with Girl in the Goldfish Bowl by Morris Panych, Feb. 19-22.
Girl in the Goldfish Bowl tells the story of a young girl named Iris, who believes the world has been held together by her pet goldfish and that his death has led both to the disintegration of her parents’ marriage and the Cuban Missile Crisis. Almost immediately after her pet’s death, Iris finds a man washed up on the beach and thinks he is the reincarnation of her goldfish. She brings the stranger back to her home, pinning all her messianic hopes on his well-being.

According to the director, Rebekah Lane, “In approaching The Girl in the Goldfish Bowl by Morris Panych, I was drawn to its balance of quiet humor and underlying ache. Panych creates a slightly heightened world that is both whimsical and deeply human. At its center is Iris, a child trying to understand the fragile, complicated adults around her — each longing to be seen, chosen or transformed.” (Panych is a Canadian playwright, director and actor.)
The cast of Girl in the Goldfish Bowl includes Stetson students Tanisha Cepeda as Iris, Nathan Pyle as Owen, Marcos Parra as Lawrence, Samantha Mariji as Sylvia, Mikayla Johns as Miss Rose, Miles Reynolds as Owen/Lawrence Swing, with Janiah Lewis as U/S Sylvia and Gabriela Ayala as U/S Miss Rose.
Performances will take place Feb. 19-21 at 8 p.m. and Feb. 22, 3 p.m., at Stetson Theatre Art’s Second Stage located inside the DeLand Museum of Art, 600 N. Woodland Blvd.
