Roland George Investments Program Returns to Orlando’s Citrus Club for Student Stock Pitch Showcase on Nov. 4

Five student teams from Stetson will present equity research recommendations built around this year’s theme, “New Energy Transition.”

Students in Stetson’s Roland George Investments Program (RGIP), the top-ranked student-managed investment fund in Florida, will pitch their best stock ideas from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, at the Citrus Club in downtown Orlando. The second annual RGIP Showcase in Orlando is free and open to the public, and audience members will vote for the winning pitches.

Five student teams will present equity research recommendations built around this year’s theme, “New Energy Transition.” The teams will make the case for American Superconductor (AMSC), MP Materials (MP), MYR Group (MYRG), Powell Industries (POWL) and nVent Electric (NVT).

The audience will vote for the three best presentations, and the top three teams will receive cash prizes. The student-led investment committee of the Roland George Investments Program will then evaluate each of these five stocks for potential inclusion in the portfolios.

Attendees, including members of CFA Society Orlando, will hear professional-quality stock pitches, talk with students and get an inside look at the rigorous analysis behind each investment recommendation.

In preparation for careers, RGIP gives students the job of managing real money.

Established in 1980, RGIP gives students the job of managing real money. Students function much like an investment management firm, investing a portion of Stetson’s endowment and returning all profits to it. Stetson’s Board of Trustees recently entrusted the program with an additional $4 million from the university’s $445 million endowment, bringing RGIP’s assets under management to $11.5 million.

“It is a measure of the institution’s trust in this program, its sustained success, the students who are involved and the seriousness with which they approach the task of managing these portfolios that Stetson’s Board of Trustees has entrusted an additional $4 million to RGIP,” said Matthew Imes, PhD, CFA, the Roland and Sarah George Chair of Finance, director of the Roland George Investments Program and associate professor of finance at Stetson.

Imes said the program gives students the chance to take the concepts and theories they learn in the classroom and apply them to running real portfolios, much like they will at the investment and banking firms where they go to work after graduation. RGIP graduates routinely field multiple job offers, and alumni work at firms, including Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan and BNP Paribas.

The free showcase includes complimentary hors d’oeuvres. A cash bar will be available. Seating is limited to about 120 guests, and an RSVP is required.
