The Stetson University School of Music Composition Program will welcome world-renowned composer and teacher Martin Bresnick as a guest lecturer at the Composition Forum on Friday, Oct. 18, at 2:30 p.m., in Presser Hall, room 132. Presser Hall is located at 419 N. Woodland Blvd., DeLand. Admission is free and open to the public.

Bresnick’s compositions, from symphonic and chamber music, to film scores and computer music, are performed across the globe. Currently, he is professor of Composition and the Coordinator of the Composition Department at the Yale School of Music where he joined the faculty in 1981. As a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, Bresnick’s music has been performed by the National Symphony Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and by Bang on a Can All-Stars, as well as numerous other ensembles all around the world. He is the recipient of several prizes and commissions, including the first Charles Ives Living Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, The Rome Prize, The Berlin Prize, a Guggenheim Fellowship, and a Koussevitzky Commission, among many others.

Born in New York City in 1946, Bresnick holds degrees from the University of Hartford (B.A. 1967), and Stanford University (M.A. 1968, D.M.A. 1972) with additional study at Akademie für Musika in Vienna (’69-’70). His composition teachers include Gyorgy Ligeti, John Chowning, and Gottfried von Einem.
