Orthodox church building attacked with Molotov cocktail

POLICE HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY REPORT OF ARSON OF UPTsMP CHURCH IN KIEV

The Department of Relations with the Public of the Chief Directorate of MVD of Ukraine reported this to UNIAN, as the result of the appearance in news media of reports that one of the churches of the capital was set on fire by a flammable mixture.

 

"At the present time the duty office of the Chief Directorate of MVD of Ukraine in the city of Kiev has not received a statement or a report of arson or a fire in churches, chapels, monasteries and so forth of Kiev in the past few days," the Department of Relations with the Public noted.

 

In the event of the arrival of a corresponding statement at law enforcement agencies, a detailed investigation will be conducted, appropriate conclusions about the incident will be reached, and search operations for perpetrators will be carried out, the police assured.

 

The rector of the UPTs church consecrated to the icon "Joy of all who sorrow," Archpriest Sergii Temnik, reported that on 3 December at 04.00, unidentified persons set fire to the church using a bottle of a flammable mixture. "A bottle with a flammable mixture hit the window grille in the altar area. The flame damaged the wall and window and polyethylene burned boards. We do not know who set fire to the church. Threats were received recently, but this is the first time such an attack on the church was made," he declared.

 

At the same time, the rector said that he had reported the arson of the church to law enforcement agencies.
