STUDY OF RELIGION DOES NOT HELP TO GET RID OF JUVENILE DELINQUENCY
The Ministry of Education of Karelia has decided that the study of the course "Foundations of Religious Cultures and Secular Ethics" has not lowered the number of crimes among children and the level of childhood drug addiction, Gazeta13 reported on 5 April.
According to analytical data received as the result of a survey of parents of children who had taken the course in religious studies, this subject did not have any effect on participation in or attitude toward any one or another faith, and it also does not reduce the level of childhood crime and drug addiction. Although the study of the subject expands the children's horizon relative to questions of faith and it also produces cultural and spiritual development. (tr. by PDS, posted 11 April 2015)
