UNKNOWN PERSONS SET FIRE TO UPTsMP CHURCH IN BABI YAR
During the night of Tuesday-Wednesday unidentified persons for the third time committed arson of the church building of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow patriarchate (UPTsMP) in Babi Yar, the church's website reports.
The unidentified persons set fire to the church consecrated to the icon of the Mother of God the Joy of All Who Sorrow, of the second Shevchenko deanery of the city of Kiev. Thanks to the timely arrival of the fire service, the flame was quickly extinguished.
According to information published by the State Service for Emergency situations, the report of the fire arrived at 4.54 a.m. (local and Moscow time).
This is now the third instance of arson of the premises on the territory of the church building of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Babi Yar. The previous time, during the arson the perpetrators left a note near the church with an appeal discrediting the UPTs and sometime later posted on the Internet a video of the crime, the website of the church reports.
In their turn, the Kiev police report that they are conducting an investigation of the incident of the fire on the church's territory. "Police along with firefighters have established that as a result of the fire the outside wall and a plastic steel window of the building were damaged. No one was injured during the emergency incident," the police report says. (tr. by PDS, posted 22 April 2015)
