JEHOVAH'S WITNESS FINED FOR DISTRIBUTING LITERATURE IN NOVGOROD PROVINCE
On 17 March, a Staraia Russa district court fined a Jehovah's Witness. This was reported on the Internet newspaper Vashi Novosti.
Two women were distributing religious literature next to a shopping area in Staraia Russa. However, the distribution of booklets from a stand is considered to be a picket, and for that permission is necessary, which they did not have.
The organizer was fined 10 thousand [rubles]. The court lessened the punishment in consideration of the woman's minimal pension and of her being single. Under ordinary circumstances, the fine on this article is 20 to 30 thousand.
Recently, the Novgorod provincial court dismissed an appeal by the Jehovah's Witness. (tr. by PDS, posted 26 April 2015)
