CHURCH BURNED DOWN NORTH OF DONETSK

DPR authorities do not rule out sabotage

RIA Novosti, 20 October 2015

A church burned down Monday evening in the village of Krasnyi Partizan of Yasinovataya district of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), the Ministry of Defense of the republic reported.

"Today, at around 18.30, news arrived about a fire in a church building in the residential area of Krasnyi Partizan, Yasinovataya district. Unfortunately, it was not possible to put out the fire as the blaze was too great," the Donetsk news agency quotes a representative of the DPR Defense Ministry.

He said the cause of the fire is being established at the present time, but he did not rule out that the fire was started by a commando reconnaissance group of Ukrainian fighters. He explained that representatives of the Joint Center of Control and Coordination of Fire Fighting and the emergency ministry of DPR are workng at the site of the fire.

In April of last year Ukrainian authorities began a military operation against the self-proclaimed LPR and DPR. According to the latest statistics of the UN, there have been more than 8,000 casualties of the conflict. The question of settling the situation in the Donbass has been discussed, including during meetings by a contact group in Minsk.

In late September an agreement was signed concerning the removal from the front line of weapons smaller than 100 millimeters and of tanks. The removal of weapons has been conducted in stages. The first stage was removal of weapons in Luhansk province; the second, in Donetsk province. Militamen of the LPR declared last Tuesday the completion of the first stage of removal of weapons of less than 100 millimeters caliber. Ukrainian forces reported that they completed the first stage of removal on Friday. The DPR plans to begin removal on 21 October, provided the ceasefire is being observed.
