Jehovah's Witnesses in Kalmykia lose Kingdom Hall

JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES' PROPERTY IN ELISTA SEIZED

Kalmykia OnLine, 25 October 2016

In accordance with a lawsuit by the prosecutor of the republic, the district department of court bailiffs for special enforcement proceedings received a writ for enforcement concerning the transfer to state ownership of property that belonged to the local religious organization of Jehovah's Witnesses in Elista.

Inasmuch as the sect was liquidated on the basis of a court decision, the court bailiffs placed an attachment on two plots of land and a nonresidential wooden building (house of worship) of 251 square meters in area.

Now all the documentation will be transferred to the federal agency for property management in the republic of Kalmykia for delivery of immovable property into the revenue of the state, the press service of the Federal Service of Court Bailiffs for Kalmykia reported.

We recall that previously the Supreme Court of the Russian federation turned down the appeal of attorneys for the Elista division of Jehovah's Witnesses and left without change the decision regarding its liquidation. The reason was the occurrence of distribution of forbidden literature at meetings that the Jehovists conducted. (tr. by PDS, posted 31 October 2016)
