Jehovah's Witnesses again frustrated in court

COURT REFUSES TO CONSIDER JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES' APPEAL OF SEIZURE OF THEIR BUILDING IN ST. PETERSBURG

Telegraph, 19 January 2018

The Sestroretsk district court of St. Petersburg left without action until 9 February an appeal by representatives of the legal entity Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania of the decision concerning the confiscation of their building in Kurort district. Telegraph was told this in the Unified Press Service of St. Petersburg Courts.

In the opinion of the court, the appeal did not comply with the requirements of article 322 of the Code of Civil Procedure of the RF. Put more simply, the party that filed a complaint did not present evidence of the payment of the state fee.

In early December the Sestroretsk district court of St. Petersburg declared invalid the act of transfer by Jehovah's Witnesses to the American legal entity of property valued at two billion rubles. It was this decision specifically that the organization filed an appeal against.

The property was seized in favor of the Russian federation. The decision was made within the context of proceedings on a civil suit of the Rosimushchestvo and the prosecutor's office against the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania.

According to information from public sources, the market value of the confiscated property is about two billion rubles and the assessed value is 800 million rubles. The subject is immovable property on the bank of the Finnish Gulf not far from St. Petersburg.

In the middle of December, security forces seized yet another of the buildings of the Jehovah's Witnesses religious organization near the Pionerskaya metro station. (tr. by PDS, posted 22 January 2018)
