The prosecutor's office of the Metallurgicheskii district of the city of Cheliabinsk opened a case against a local resident concerning administrative violation of law for conducting missionary activity in violation of the requirements of legislation on freedom of conscience, freedom of religious confession, and on religious associations (part 4 of article 5.26 of the Code of Administrative Violations of Law of the RF).

During a verification of compliance with the legislation on freedom of conscience and religious associations, the prosecutor's office of the Metallurgicheskii district established that a resident of Cheliabinsk, who is the leader of the religious group of "Association Church of Christians of Evangelical Faith of Cheliabinsk," in building 2a on Kashtakskaia Street, shared information about his confession with citizens who are not members of the aforesaid religious group in order to get them to become members of the group.

"The premises of the aforesaid building are suitable for conducting meetings of a religious group and for conducting lectures and worship services, accommodating a large number of persons. Such a group was created illegally, inasmuch as the owner of the building had given no notification about the creation and did not have documents confirming the right for this activity," the press service of the oblast prosecutor's office told the news agency Uralskii Meridian.

The Cheliabinsk resident was held administratively accountable and fined 5,000 rubles. (tr. by PDS, posted 26 January 2018)
