Another lawsuit for seizing Jehovah's Witnesses' property

OBLAST PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE SUES JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES

The prosecutor's office of Tambov oblast turned to an arbitration court with a lawsuit in the interests of the Russian federation in the person of Rosimushestvo [Federal Agency for Administration of State Property] in Tambov and Lipetsk oblast, against the religious society of Jehovah's Witnesses in Switzerland, in order to find an agreement for donation of real estate invalid and to recover the property from the unlawful possession of the religious society of Jehovah's Witnesses. This pertains to a land parcel of 1308 square meters, located at the address 451 Sovetskaia St. in the city of Michurinsk, and to a dwelling located on the aforementioned parcel.

 

On 20 April 2017, the Supreme Court of the Russian federation ruled the activity of the Administrative Center of Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia to be extremist and prohibiting its activity and the activity of all 395 divisions on the territory of Russia. The property of the Administrative Center of Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia is subject to confiscation and reversion in the state's favor. (tr. by PDS, posted 8 February 2018)
