COURT IN MOSCOW FINES SIX ISRAELI CITIZENS FOR ILLEGAL MISSIONARY ACTIVITY IN KABBALAH CENTER

Moscow City News Agency, 28 March 2018

The Meschansky district court of the capital fined six citizens of Israel for illegal missionary activity in the Kabbalah Center. This was reported to the Moscow City New Agency at the court's press service.

"The court sentenced six citizens of Israel to a fine of 50,000 rubles each on the basis of the article 'Violation of legislation on freedom of conscience and freedom of religious confession and on religious association, committed by a foreign citizen,'" the court explained.

The director of the Center for the Study of Kabbala, Genadi Dubovis, who is working in the Kabbalah Center; a highly qualified specialist of the Kabbalah Center, Dmitry Dubovis; and also personnel of the Kabbalah Center Irina and Itaya Sinvani, Anna Brodsky, and Liaka Kutnovsky were sentenced to fines.

According to court materials, the case was initiated after the Meshchansky district prosecutor's office received information from the directorate of the Russian F.S.B. for Moscow and Moscow oblast that foreigners were engaged in missionary activity in the Center for the Study of Kabbalah.

"The prosecutor's office ruled that the Kabbalah Center had not given notification about the beginning of activity for disseminating the teachings of Kabbalah and documents for conducting missionary activity had not been issued in the name of a religious organization.

It was thereby established that G. Dubovis conducted missionary activity without notification in written form about the beginning of the activity. According to the schedule of classes of the Kabbalah Center, the following curricula are being taught in the community: "Kabbalist Astrology" and "Foundations of Kabbalah," the materials state.

The court specified that the Kabbalah Center is not registered in the capacity of a religious organization and the Ministry of Justice was not informed about its activity. (tr. by PDS, posted 29 March 2018)
