Ukraine relaxes regulations on religious organizations

VERKHOVNA RADA ADOPTS ON FIRST READING CHANGES IN LAW ON REGISTERING DOCUMENTS OF RELIGIOUS ORGANIZATIONS

On 5 April, the Verkhovna Rada adopted on first reading changes in the law "On state registration of legal entities, individuals, enterprises, and public formations," regarding registration of documents of religious organizations. Draft law No. 6642 was supported for basic acceptance by 231 people's deputies.

 

The draft law proposes to eliminate the necessity of notarized certification of the signatures of leaders of a religious organization when registering changes in information about the religious organization in the Uniform State Register and in founding documents, and also a deed of transfer (in the event of merger, unification, and transformation) and a separation balance sheet (in the event of division or separation) of a religious organization as a legal entity.

 

The bill also proposes to exempt religious organizations from paying an administrative fee for state registration of changes in the Uniform State Register.

 

According to data of the Razumkov Center, in 2017 an absolute majority of Ukrainians (67.1%) considered themselves believing people, and another 11.79% were wavering between belief and unbelief, 4.1%  of citizens considered themselves nonbelievers, and 2.5% were convinced atheists, ZnUa reports.
