OVERVIEW IN CASE OF DANISH BELIEVER IN OREL

Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia, 25 April 2018

On this day in the trial of the case of Jehovah's Witness Dennis Christensen, who is accused because of his religious confession, two witness for the prosecution were questioned: an agent of the F.S.B. and a woman who attended services of the Jehovah's Witnesses from 2013 to 2015.

The F.S.B. agent stated that in 2017 he was keeping an eye on a building on Zheleznodorozhny Street in the city of Orel. He made a video as Christensen was greeting people in a friendly manner. However, what was happening inside the building he did not know. In addition, once he observed Christensen in a café, and he tried to record Christensen's conversation. He did not hear what the conversation was about and he was not sure that the sound was recorded. Finally, he participated in a search of the residence of one family of believers. To the lawyer's question why, despite the requirements of the Russian Code of Criminal Procedure, the objects that he seized during the search had not been enumerated and described, the witness answered that he was only the actor and he was operating under the direction of another agent.

A local resident who was summoned as a witness described how she attended meetings of Jehovah's Witnesses from 2013 to 6 December 2015. The witness was not able to give any evidence about Christensen's activity in the period after 2016, when a court liquidated the local religious organization of Jehovah's Witnesses.

The hearings are scheduled to continue on 25 April 2018. (tr. by PDS, posted 25 April 2018)
