METROPOLITAN ILARION BELIEVES THAT WORLD HAS ENTERED PERIOD OF COLD WAR
Presidents of Russia and U.S.A. need to sit down at negotiating table
Interfax-Religiia, 14 May 2018
The head of the synodal Department for External Church Relations, Metropolitan of Volokolamsk Ilarion, considers that the world already has entered a period of a new cold war, and to avoid a real war the leaders of world states must sit down at the negotiating table.
"We are already living in the reality of cold war and I consider that now the responsibility lies upon all sides of the conflict and this is a responsibility first of all to see that the cold war does not grow into a real war," he said on a broadcast of the program "Church and World" on the Rossiia-24 TV channel.
The hierarch noted that a very difficult situation has developed in relations between the U.S.A. and Russia.
"And just like it was in the time of the cold war, there is no direct dialogue, and in the absence of a direct dialogue the sides are not able to agree with one another," the metropolitan added, expressing the profound conviction that "it is necessary to stop somewhere and sit down at the negotiating table."
