Patriarch Bartholomew invites Ukrainian bishops to council

CONSTANTINOPLE SPECIFIES THE PROCEDURE FOR ELECTION OF PRIMATE OF AUTOCEPHALOUS ORTHODOX CHURCH IN UKRAINE

Bishops, priests, monks, and laity will participate in the unification council in Kiev on 15 December. They will all have the right of voting on the formation of a ballot with three candidates in the unification council.

 

This is stated in the invitation to the council that reached Ukrainian bishops from Patriarch Bartholomew. One of the participants of the future council, Metropolitan Alexander, posted this letter on his page in Facebook.

 

"Taking into account our patriarchal letter, dated 12 October 2018, to His Eminence Metropolitan of Kiev Onufrey, we invite Your Eminence to participate along with one cleric and one monk or layman, each of whom will have the right of a vote for the formation of the ballot of three candidates in the unification council in the historic church of the wisdom of God (Hagia Sophia) in Kiev, on Saturday 15 December 2018, for establishing the charter and the canonical election of a primate of the autocephalous Orthodox church in Ukraine, as was previously decided," the document says.

 

The invitation also indicates who will preside at the council.

 

"This council will be convened under the chairmanship of our special exarch, His Eminence Metropolitan of Gaul Immanuel, who will conduct the process of the aforementioned council in cooperation with our exarchs in Ukraine and in the honorary presence of the Honorable Petro Poroshenko, president of your country."
