Two Jehovah's Witnesses are international fugitives from Russian justice

Website of Zheleznodorozhny district court of Orel, 10 December 2018

On 7 December 2018, the Zheleznodorozhny district court of the city of Orel considered two petitions of investigator E.A. Efimov of the Investigation Department for Zheleznodorozhny district of the city of Orel of the Investigation Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation [S.K.R.F.] for Orel oblast to select a measure of restraint in the form of detention in custody for V.G. Maksimov and D.A. Prikodko, who are charged on the basis of part 2 of article 282.2 of the CC of RF with the offense of participation in the activity of a religious organization with respect to which a court has made a decision for liquidation because of the commission of extremist activity.

The court satisfied the petition of the investigator, inasmuch as the materials presented by the investigation contain specific information indicating possible participation of the suspects in a crime. The measure of restraint in the form of detention in custody was selected in absentia because the suspects have fled from agencies of preliminary investigation beyond the borders of the Russian Federation and at the present time they are on federal and international wanted lists.

The order has not taken legal effect. (tr. by PDS, posted 10 December 2018)
