Baptist church in Russian occupied Crimea shut down

COURT LIQUIDATES BAPTIST RELIGIOUS ORGANIZATION IN SEVASTOPOL

Interfax-Religiia, 9 January 2019

A Sevastopol city court granted a lawsuit of the directorate of the Ministry of Justice for the liquidation of a local religious organization, "Grace Church of Evangelical Christians-Baptists" and for the removal of information about it from the Uniform State Register of Legal Entities.

"The basis for the judicial decision was repeated gross violations of the requirement of the legislation of the RF in the sphere of the activity of noncommercial organizations. Thus, the respondent was required to report to the Ministry of Justice the change of the address of the legal entity," the press service of the court reported on Wednesday.

The materials of the case show that in September 2015, information about the church of Christians-Baptists was entered into the Uniform Register with the place of registration in an apartment building on Mikhailovskaia Street. In April 2016, the prosecutor's office of Sevastopol checked the compliance with legislation on combating extremism in religious associations, and at the time it was discovered that the organization was not at the indicated address.

"The Ministry of Justice sent requests for submitting corrected information about the organization to both the legal entity and its leader, but over the course of two years, documents were not presented and therefore the religious association was liquidated through judicial proceedings," it was explained in the court.
