Ukrainian parliament to view new bill on changing churches

AROUND 70 UPTsMP PARISHES HAVE TRANSFERRED ALREADY INTO PTsU—PRESIDENT'S REPRESENTATIVE

Religiia v Ukraine, 15 January 2019

This was declared during a session of the coordinating council of parliament by the representative of the president in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, people's deputy Irina Lutsenko, Religiia v Ukraine reports with reference to Hromadske.ua.

"Already about 70 parishes have moved from the UPTsMP into our autocephalous Ukrainian church, and therefore the task of Ukraine is to preserve inter-confessional peace, but to provide the most acceptable model of such a transfer of parishes to those they wish to attend. Therefore the head of state notes the importance of the initiative of the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada to introduce for parliament's review a draft bill that will ensure the right of religious communities to change their jurisdiction," Lutsenko noted.

Also during the session, Rada speaker Andrei Paruby noted that on Thursday, 17 January, parliament can consider a new draft bill regarding transfer of church communities into the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (PTsU). He noted that draft law No. 4128, which was registered in the Rada earlier, does not take into account all legal nuances and therefore a new document is being worked out for its amendment.
