Strana.ua, 6 February 2019
On Toesday, 5 February, Bishop of Makarov Gedeon, the vicar abbot of the Desyatyna monastery of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God, visited the Congress of the U.S.A., where he held a working meeting with congressmen of the government. This was reported by the press service of the monastery.
The American congressmen listened attentively to Bishop Gedeon, who broadly highlighted the situation connected with the violation of the international rights of believers, the radical attacks on churches of the UPTs, the beatings of believers, and the harassment of clergymen on the part of radical organizations. During the discussion it was revealed that the government of the U.S.A. does not have complete information about the religious problem that has developed in Ukraine.
Bishop Gedeon delivered an official appeal to Secretary of State Michael Pompeo and to congressmen of the government in which the Ukrainian Orthodox Church asks for a review of the violation of laws of Ukraine "about freedom of conscience and religious organizations." In their turn, representatives of the government of the UlS.A. expressed profound regret that in Ukraine today the constitutional rights of believers are being violated, promising to investigate the current situation around the religious problem and also expressing support for creating a representation of the UPTs on the territory of the U.S.A.
