UNIDENTIFIED PERSONS SET FIRE TO BUILDING OF LARGEST
JEWISH UNIVERSITY
IN RUSSIA
Unidentified persons set fire to the building of the
largest Jewish
educational institution in Russia, the Toras Chaim yeshiva in
Moscow, the rabbi
of the yeshiva, Moishe Lebel, told RIA Novosti.
The news agency's source emphasized that the incident
occurred right
before the start of the chief holy day of Judaism, Passover
[Pesach].
The rabbi stated that a storage unit with kosher meat
burned.
There were 60 students, rabbis, and guests in the
yeshiva, who had come
for a seder, a ritual meal for the occasion of Pesach.
Pesach is one of the most ancient Jewish holy days. It is devoted to the most important event of biblical history, which is considered the start of the history of the Jewish nation, the Exodus from Egypt and the liberation of the people from 400 years of slavery. This year, Pesach is being celebrated from 19 to 26 April. (tr. by PDS, posted 20 April 2019)
