STATISTICS ON USE OF ARTICLE ON "ILLEGAL EVANGELISM" IN

In April 2019, the Judicial Department of the Supreme
Court of the
Russian Federation published statistical data on the application
of article
5.26 of the Code of Administrative Violations of Law of the RF
(violation of
legislation on freedom of conscience and freedom of religious
confession and on
religious associations) in the year 2018.
According to these data, 419 such cases were considered
in the year.
Punishment was rendered in 250 cases: 172 individuals and 78
legal entities. In
most cases (243), the penalties applied were fines. Five times
written warnings
were issued and twice the guilty were sentenced to compulsory
labor. In
addition, in five cases the basic penalty was supplemented by
confiscations and
in two, by deportation from the country.
The total amount of fines collected under article 5.26 by the end of the year was 3,736,500 rubles. (tr. by PDS, posted 7 May 2019)
