P.Ts.U. HONORARY PATRIARCH FILARET COMES TO GOLDEN DOMED
MONASTERY TO
GREET P.Ts.U. PRIMATE ON HIS NAME DAY
Orthodox Church of Ukraine (PTsU) Honorary Patriarch
Filaret arrived on
25 May at the St. Michael's cathedral of the Golden Domed
monastery for a
meeting with the head of the PTsU, Metropolitan Epifany, who is
celebrating
today his name day, Bukvy reports.
Since the patriarch did not vest, he will not
participate in a concelebration of the
liturgy with the head of the PTsU.
On 25 May, the Orthodox church honors the memory of the
holy prelate
Epifany, bishop of Cyprus, who is the celestial guardian of the
primate of the
PTsU. Yesterday, 24 May, the Synod of the Orthodox Church of
Ukraine confirmed
its intention to be guided by the charter that was adopted at
the unification
council on 15 December 2018. The only person who did not sign
this decision was
PTsU Honorary Patriarch Filaret. After the session, Epifany
reported that
members of the PTsU Synod discussed Filaret's statements that
the UPTs of the
Kiev patriarchate continues to exist. At the same time, they
were not able to
persuade him. While the head of the PTsU confirmed that Filaret
continues to
control the Kiev diocese and all of its revenues.
Epifany added that Filaret's position does not have "the
support
either on the part of bishops or on the part of clergy or on the
part of the
Ukrainian people."
On 15 May, Honorary Patriarch Filaret said that he would not have promoted the candidacy of Epifany for the post of primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine if he had known that he "will take crooked roads."(tr. by PDS, posted 25 May 2019)
