CRIMINAL PROSECUTION OF EVGENY AKSENOV FOR READING SACRED SCRIPTURE IN KHABAROVSK
Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia, 6 August 2019
On 24 July 2019, an order was issued for holding Evgeny Aksenov, a resident of Khabarovsk, liable as a defendant. Aksenov's "guilt," in the opinion of the investigation, consists in the fact that in April 2018, he met with friends in a conference hall of a hotel complex and read Sacred Scripture.
In the evening of 6 August 2019, four FSB officers arrived, with witnesses, at the apartment of Evgeny Aksenov and his family in Khabarovsk. In the course of a search everything was overturned and a hard drive was confiscated.
Law enforcers regard reading the Bible as the continuation of extremist activity. The order was signed by a senior criminalist investigator of the investigation department of the UFSB of Russia for Khabarovsk territory, D. Pozdniakov. The believer gave a written promise not to depart from his place of residence. (tr. by PDS, posted 6 August 2019)
