MINISTER ACCUSES U.S.A. OF PRESSURE ON MIDDLE EASTERN ORTHODOX
CHURCHES
The
United States is
putting pressure on Orthodox churches in the Middle East and
northern Africa so
that they would recognize the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (PTsU),
Russian
Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov declared on 2 October
at a session of
the Valday discussion club.
The
minister said
that thus far "none of the Orthodox churches" has recognized the
"absolutely politicized decision" about the creation of the
PTsU. The
autocephaly of the PTsU was presented by the patriarchate of
Constantinople, so
that at least one church recognizes the PTsU.
"The
[U.S.A.]
is pressuring Orthodox churches in both the Near East and in
north
Africa," Regnum quotes Lavrov. "And when they do not see a
voluntary
wish to submit, they try to threaten and even split individual
Orthodox
churches." (tr. by PDS, posted 2 October 2019)
