YAKUTIA SHAMAN GABYSHEV FORCIBLY TAKEN TO MENTAL HOSPITAL

Interfax-Religiia, 12 May 2020

Shaman Alexander Gabyshev from Yakutsk, who obtained notoriety after his "march" to Moscow, was forcibly taken to a psychiatric hospital, the organization Rights Protection Postcards reports.

According to information of rights advocates, Gabyshev was taken to a psychiatric hospital from his apartment with the participation of OMON troops.

Earlier, Rights Protection Postcards recalled, "people who identified themselves as medical workers went to Gabyshev's apartment three times and tried to administer a test for the coronavirus," but he refused to do it.

Calling himself a shaman, a year ago Alexander Gabyshev started on a journey by foot over the 8,000 kilometers from Yakutia to Moscow, in order "to drive Putin away" and "to restore people's rule." The march was supposed to last two years, in all.

In the autumn, a criminal case was opened against Gabyshev for public calls for extremist activity. He was arrested several times and as a result he finally ended his "march."

A governmental expert analysis concluded that Gabyshev is insane. (tr. by PDS, posted 13 May 2020)
