IN
KHAKASSIA, CASE OF
JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES RETURNED TO INVESTIGATOR DUE TO VIOLATIONS
The
prosecutor's
office in Khakassia returned a criminal case against Jehovah's
Witnesses Roman
Baranovskii and his 68-year-old mother, Valentina Baranovskaia,
to the
investigator, the website of Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia
reported.
Violations
of the
requirements of the criminal procedural laws were discovered in
the indictment,
which prevent transferring the case into a court for
consideration on the
merits. Therefore the materials were returned for "recomposing
the
indictment and removing the violations revealed," the report
notes.
The case
against the
Baranovskiis was opened in March 2019. According to the account
of the
investigation, the suspects convened meetings and organized
sermons. They are
accused of arranging the activity of a forbidden organization.
On 30
March it was
learned that yet another criminal case was opened in Khakassia
that involved six
believers simultaneously as subjects. This case was separated
out of the
criminal case that had already been opened earlier. On 10 April
2019, in
Abakan, armed personnel of law enforcement agencies in masks
conducted searches
in residences of two families that were suspected of affiliation
with the
Jehovah's Witnesses. Upon the conclusion of the searches,
44-year-old Roman
Baranovskii was arrested. (tr. by PDS, posted 18 May 2020)
