Creative Problem Solving through Design Thinking

Overview

Design Thinking has gained momentum in the world’s leading companies, such as Netflix, Apple, Google, HBO, Samsung, World Bank, and General Electric. They have embraced Design Thinking to improve their customer experiences. At its heart, design thinking is a process for solving problems by prioritizing the consumer’s needs above all else. It relies on observing, with empathy, how people interact with their environments and employs an iterative, hands-on approach to creating innovative solutions.

We’ve designed this program to give your team a basic understanding of the foundations of Design Thinking skills and a practical understanding of the proven creative problem-solving process. During this session, our faculty team of design experts will introduce you to the basics of Design Thinking and the key principles of empathizing, defining, ideating, prototyping, and testing solutions to problems.

Learning Objectives:

  • Establish a common language and repeatable process for creative problem-solving.
  • Practice the skills of design thinking through hands-on activities geared towards your current problems.
  • Apply methods that will help you turn your customer needs into human-centered solutions.
  • Use proven ideation techniques to quickly generate, develop, and test new concepts.
Team-building Ropes Course Activities

Overview

Camp La-No-Che is located near the southern border of the Ocala National Forest and on the north shores of Lake Norris in Paisley Florida – about 30 minutes west of our DeLand campus. Over the years the property has grown to encompass over 1100 acres and continues to provide top-notch programs for Scout groups, ROTC Units, and other corporate retreats.  Stetson University has partnered with the Camp on their Project C.O.P.E. initiative. COPE is an acronym for Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience, a program through the Boy Scouts of America that consists of group initiative games, trust events, and high and low ropes courses.

Through this Stetson partnership, we offer certified instructor-led workshops to companies looking to develop team-building skills, strengthen leadership qualities, and think outside the box. The combination of Low and High Ropes Courses enables participants to grow at both the team and individual levels by exploring leadership and communication concepts, trust, problem-solving, and coaching.

The Low Ropes Course focuses on collaboration; the challenges call upon every member of the team to participate, and they present unending opportunities for self-discovery and team growth. The activities range in height from ground level to 12 feet and are selected based on the group’s desired learning outcomes, physical activity, and contact level. There will be no climbing or using harnesses/helmets.

The High Ropes Course emphasizes risk-taking, trust, and coaching. High Ropes Courses are outdoor experiential team-building exercises that accelerate personal learning and team development. This shared group experience is novel, exciting, and very different from just another day at the office! The challenges enable participants to expand their comfort zones—sometimes dramatically—and recognize fears that may block personal achievement.

Benefits and Learning Objectives

  • Integrates an enjoyable activity to break up a multi-day meeting or celebrate success.
  • Demonstrates the importance of teamwork.
  • Increases trust by supporting each other and sharing ideas.
  • Strengthens company-client relationships.
  • Activities can be complemented with additional classroom workshops
