August 25- Stetson Law moot court team wins workers’ compensation competition

Gulfport, Fla. – A team from Stetson University College of Law won the annual E. Earle Zehmer Moot Court Competition in Orlando, sponsored by the Workers’ Compensation Section of The Florida Bar. A second Stetson Law team reached the semifinals and received an award for the runner-up best brief.
The team of Stetson students Satyen Gandhi and Theresa Jean-Pierre defeated a team from Florida Coastal School of Law in the finals, arguing before judges from Florida’s First District Court of Appeal. The victorious team advanced to the finals after facing Stetson’s other team, which consisted of students Harley Chivers and Dana Harris, in the semifinals.
“This is an outstanding accomplishment by our moot court board members, and we are very proud of all of them,” said Professor Stephanie Vaughan, moot court adviser. “We are thrilled to begin the new school year as champions. The moot court board looks forward to an extremely successful year.”
Attorneys and Stetson Law alumnae Wendy Harkness and Paulette Zarbatany Brown coached Gandhi, Jean-Pierre and briefwriter Amy Miles. Stetson alumna attorney Nancy Slack coached Chivers and Harris.
