Gulfport, Fla. – Stetson University College of Law and architectural firm FleischmanGarcia recently received an award of merit at the Hillsborough County City-County Planning Commission’s 23rd Annual Community Design Awards. The commission honored the design of Stetson’s Tampa Law Center in the Institutional, Public and Quasi-Public Projects category at the award ceremony at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino April 21.

In presenting the award, the Planning Commission stated that Stetson was leading the redevelopment of the north downtown Tampa area by “bringing energy and activity to a neighborhood working hard to regain its vitality.”

The commission wrote in materials accompanying the award that Stetson’s presence “is serving as the catalyst for significant real estate development in the area. The Mediterranean Revival structure has many beautiful features that are reminiscent of historically-significant Tampa architecture. The campus could well become a Tampa landmark.”

Associate Dean Jan Majewski accepted the award on behalf of Stetson. The glass and marble stylized trophy will be on display in the Trombley Conference Room at the Tampa Law Center.
