Wetlands in War: International Environmental Law and Damages to Aquatic Resources during Conflict

As recent events have demonstrated, the environment is also an unfortunate casualty of war. This panel of experts will review legal and policy issues associated with damage to wetlands and related ecosystems arising from transboundary and internal conflicts, including the relevance of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, damage claims from the first Gulf War, the draining of the Mesopotamian Marshlands by Saddam Hussein, and the impacts on water quality from cocaine production in South America.
