A team of students from Mississippi College School of Law won Stetson University College of Law’s National Pretrial Competition on Oct. 13-16 in Gulfport, Florida.

Sixteen teams of students from across the country competed at Stetson. The competition, now in its ninth year, teaches students what attorneys do every day in offices and courtrooms across the nation.

“The National Pretrial Competition provides advocates with a competition experience capturing the essence of what attorneys do in practice every day. We are so happy and excited to congratulate Mississippi College of Law on their well earned victory,” said Stetson Professor of Trial Advocacy Charles Rose III, director of the Center for Excellence in Advocacy.

Competing teams receive a problem based on normal pretrial issues; write two memoranda of law that will be scored; make oral arguments; and present evidence and make a closing argument in an evidentiary hearing.
