Complimentary forensic science webinar offered Sept. 26
Stetson presents a complimentary forensic science webinar for prosecutors and defense attorneys on Sept. 26 from 4-6 p.m.
The webinar, “Organization of Scientific Area Committees Essentials: Forensic Science Resources” is part of the free forensic science webinar series funded by the U.S. Department of Justice, Capital Litigation Initiative: Crime Scene to Courtroom Forensics Training.
The webinar offers a judicial perspective on admissibility of evidence and expert witness testimony. Using case examples, the discussion will explore what judges look for in determining whether expert testimony effectively demonstrates a logical link between objective facts and offered opinion. Topics will include published standards, research and development needs, and the impact of OSAC on the legal community. The OSAC is a valuable resource for forensic science standards and guidelines, representing more than 25 forensic disciplines.
Webinar panelists will discuss OSAC’s well-defined process to develop technically sound forensic science standards and familiarize attorneys with OSAC resources, including the OSAC Registry and Newsletter. Panelists include Professorial Lecturer in Law at the George Washington University Law School Kenneth E. Melson; Deputy Director of the Special Programs Office at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, U.S. Department of Commerce Mark Stolorow; and California Imperial County Superior Court Judge Christopher J. Plourd.
Attendees who complete the course will be eligible for free CLE credits (2.0). Stetson’s Office of Professional Education will work with each individual participant for reporting specifics.
